Beautiful Fungi

Post by Bruce Williams »

I think this is the Oyster Mushroom, Plurotus ostreatus. I have posted a
different image on a British wildlife forum asking for confirmation of id.

It's quite large and IMO truly beautiful with it's flowing, fan shaped forms - reminds me
somewhat of waves crashing over rocks.

Wow Bruce, a fantastic photograph. I had to walk over to my bookshelf and pull out my Smithsonian on mushrooms to check this out. Looks as though your ID is correct. Beautiful image :smt023

You know though, this looks a bit large for a 512 x 685 image :-k However that is what the properties show it to be.

Thanks Ken :D .

The reason the pic looks larger than expected is because it's actually made up from two separate images. I felt the subject needed "size" to work visually, so I split the original 1024X685 pic into two 512X685 files and posted them to the forum without leaving a space between the two uploads. Method (devised to keep within forum rules) courtesy of Rik posted several months ago :)

I echo Ken's "Wow" on this one Bruce. :) Terrific image, it makes me want to go back down to the sea. LOL!! I would never have though that this was two pics as I cannot see a join.

Yes, I agree with Gorden, Oyster mushrooms are very good to eat and command a high price when you buy them fresh. A wonderful picture Bruce. I love the large size.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately there is a total ban on picking fungi in this park. One of the park wardens was telling me that in the past they had people coming into the park to collect and sell on to restaurants so the posted a permanent ban.

Shame :?

Bruce :D
