We have them in various colours. There is also a yellow one which I have seen but do not have a pic of. The brown one I will have to post tomorrow.

Wonderful photos. These animals are quite interesting, notice how they got four legs per body segment.
I've photographed two species in South Africa, maybe you have seen those too ? (link to Danish insect forum, excuse the language)
Ken: Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate them:
Erland: Thank you for your comment. That third one is very interesting. Where did you take the pic? I have seen yellow ones too but it is the first time I have seen one like that.
Three very interesting photos Jean. Your last pic really illustrates Arlon's point about them having 4 legs per segment doesn't it. The way it's curled up immediately made me think of a woodlice - they're both arthropods so maybe they're close(ish) relatives?
Thanks for you nice comments Bruce. Those pics of Erlands are very interesting. I have never seen the last, light coloured one so I am interested in finding out where he took them.
Joan, all three pictures are taken within 15 minutes in the mountain regions east of Polokwane (Pietersburg) in Limpopo, where I stayed for a couple of nights together with a family from South Africa. Road #71 leads to a location called Houtbosdorp, but it's hardly a city anymore.
The first dark species where quite abundant, and several was seen on the gravel road. The second striped one I saw two of, and they were just of the road, on some rocks at the top of a slope overlooking a valley.
btw.your third picture resembles the one I photographed a bit.
I studied the internet a bit after photographing these, and found interesting information on this animal group. They are very old, and prehistoric species were up to two meters long.
