Damselfly first attempt at one, they are so beautiful......

Hi there,

this morning I was out again just after day break for a few hours, came home with a few nice shots and shot trial shots with the flash bracket. But as I was ready to pack up and go home saw this beauty, starting to understand the flash and bracket and what affects what.

Comments welcomed as always good and bad, especially ways to improve.

You can be very proud of yourself on this Darren. It is very good. My first attemp was pathetic and not anthing as good as this. Well done!!

I agree with Joan, these first results are very good. The effect is very clean and delicate looking and the lighting appears flat and soft (diffuse) - detail is subtle but present. Has something of the look of a "Wayside and Woodlands" illustration.

How do the colours compare with your memory of the "real thing" Darren?

Thanks Joan and Bruce, from what I remember it wasn't too bad, I try to record things like this as close to real I think the beauty in nature is superb and doesn't need much help but that also depends on light of course. But I feel perserverence is paying of and the use of flash is greatly helping

Very Beautiful picture Darren. Very well balanced, clean, and a great background. You did a good job on the metallic color along the abdomen and I agree with Bruce on the lighting.

Wonderfull damselfly, and what a nice photo.

I am pretty sure this is a female from the Lestidae family. It may be from the genus Austrolestes.

Agree, very nice.

Should be a female according to sharp ovipositor used for cutting herb tissues for laying eggs in.
A plesiomorphic style.
