MT24-EX First ever attempt at macro flash how did I do?

Post by Dearis »

Hi there,

today I decided to bite the bullet and experiment with something I have been putting of for over a year and that is macro flash using 350D, Canon 100mm f/2.8, and the MT24-EX Macro Flash.

Here are a few photographs for that experimentation and also shot of a home made diffuser I made for the use on that flash using 2 cream containers and rubber bands, the only trouble is the guide lamps used for aiming at the subject, the diffuser needs to be removed to aim then put back on.

The two shots using the flash were shot in complete shade.

Comments welcomed good and bad.

Regards Darren

Nice shot and experiment in diffuse the light - but the Sto-Fen OM-24XSET Omni-Bounce Set for Canon, is a lot more easy to use

Cheers Ib,

however the light isn't as soft as the other system, might need thicker plastic

the photos look great imo, esp the flower, great idea to defuse the flash heads, raw flash can be alittle harsh and reflective, i like to use a diffuser too.

you may want to experiment with differences exposure compensation and FEB, (flash exposure compensation) if you havent allready, for a feel of what effects you can acheve from the flash.

for example increasing exposure and lowering the FEB will elimate backrounds that are alittle to dark.

where as decreasing exposure and increasing FEB will have an opposite effect.

i think that maybe with your flash you can have differences in FEB for each flash-head you may want to experiment alittle with that too.

fiddle around with them and see how they effect the photograph.
