These were my attempts to capture the shield of a shield bug. :) Made them yesterday. Hadn't seen yours, Charlie. I am still strugling a bit with the lighting and the colours.

Its funny how you and Charles are on the same wavelength  Almost looks like the same insect. Very nice stack job Wim. I love the sucking mouthpart, I woud hate to be speared with that :smt103

Yes, but I am of course influenced by Charlie's brilliant images. But this was still a bit of a coïncidence. But I also think that when you see an insect that it is almost asking to be photographed in a certain position. In this case I wanted to show the beak. What other way is better than this to show it. I like the symmetry but I always like to shift slightly from the symmetry. The top image has a dissymetry I like. Perhaps that is a difference from Charlie's image. (You can also say that I am a bit clumsy:)

I was even thinking that an abdomen shot would be very interesting from an anatomical viewpoint, ovipostors and Spiracles would be cool to see close up IMO. I love the structure of the palps and antennae in these stacks. The stacks are so much different than just looking under a microscope...much more 3D and whole view looking.

Yes, you can never see with a depth of field like that, with such a resolution!

Good suggestions!

I now see that the bottom image is a bit boring:)

I have to go now! I am going to France, a week, photographing tide pools. Also a nice subject.

best regards,
