A Face only a mother could love!!

Post by Dearis »

Hi there,

here is a couple of shots of a baby huntsman, this little fellow was about 3cm (1 inch) across they do grow to about 15cm (6 inches) across, I was stoked to find this fellow in an incidental meeting then a sprint back to the house to grab the canon, remove the kenko rings and race back hoping he/she was still there. I was fairly pleased with these shots, as most of you can guess spiders enthrall me.

Comments and criticisms more than welcome, good and bad.

Regards Darren

A very nice series of three progressively closer images. I particularly like the dramatic, face-on shot (pic3). The very low angle provides us with an interesting and very intimidating prey-eye view  .

I enjoy photographing spiders too, however 2007 has been a miserable year for insects and particularly spiders - I'm assuming it's in part due to the UK's very wet summer and the extensive flooding of fields we experienced in late spring early summer.

Good posting.

Bruce :D

Thanks Bruce,

In Australia its the oposite we are at the end of a 12 year drought and from the weather and reading they believe we are heading into another one.

For spiders and bugs that seems a good thing because they are more mobile looking for mates and food.

IS it me , or does this little baby spider look like it has to grow into is legs like a puppy with big feet  it also reminds me of a football player (american football, not soccer) when they put the black lines under their eyes. I really like the headshot in #3, veryup close and personal. Darron, my sundew plants from Australia are just starting to grow again because they are still on your seasonal time. I also have a Cephalotus which is doing very well, but their is no drought here in my house :D
