Harvester ants

Post by MacroLuv »

Well, I guess so. :D
Late afternoon, windy... not best conditions for taking shot.
All hand held, ISO 400, #1 & #2 full frame (3888×2592), #3 crop (3127×2083).
With a little help of the Canon 250D close-up lens.
Hey, I think I can see reflections of my silhouette on theirs body. 8)

Excellent work Nikola. The ants are very cool looking and the side view is really great for ID use, plus you captured them gathering their winter seed food

Yes indeed those are all female. Males are winged and only have a very short life span and never participate in foraging activity.

What a lazy males!
What they do? Only into soldier business?
Is it a general case with ants or only species dependent?

Males do only one thing, and that is making baby ants. Other than that they are a drain on colony resources and are quickly killed off if they do not get a chance to breed
