Caterpillar and Another Bug...

Post by Ken Ramos »

Image
EOS 30D
Manual mode/hand held
1/200 sec. @ f/10 ISO 100
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon ETTL 430EX Speedlite @ -1/3

Found this critter on a Goldenron along the Boone Fork Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway. Also the next two images were taken not far away from the Shield Bug, I think that is what it is. :-k

This cat looks funny, like it is shedding some hide or something. Do they do that :?: Have not researched it on Bugguide, sorry, so I do not know what kind of caterpillar it is.

I particularly like the composition in pic1. Good use of limited dof and the colour of the (noise free) background works well.

Well preserved detail in the bugs "belly" too.

Not having a great deal of noise is one of the advantages of shooting at a low ISO. Would it not be nice if they eventually develop and make available at consumer prices, a digital camera with no noise at all, at any ISO setting. Thanks Bruce :D

Beautiful Photos Ken. I think you got the caterpiller a little mad in the third picture...looks like he is bringing out the big guns. The first picture reminds me of the fall season that is fast approaching with its gray colors

Yeah, it does look a bit perturbed but it got over it, I guess. Fall is fast approaching and now is the time to be on the lookout for caterpillars before they pupate or otherwise. Thanks Doug, Jim :D
