Mantis religiosa, would say, or some very similar species. 8)

Well it looks quite nice in pastel colors Sue. Looks as though you have it trained to sit up and beg. :D

I do not think trained in anything but hand-to-hand combat. Right after I took this image, he started coming toward me for the kill :smt062

He was in his "namesake" pose when I first seen him. Bees love this plant and were all over it, but he did not mess with them, even when they landed under his chin. I suppose he knew he would get stung if he did.

Hi Sue,

This is one of those occasions when limited dof really works to create atmosphere and mood.

Interestng observation about the bees too. I wonder if the mantis is genetically programmed to ignore potential prey that can fight back (obviously did not include homo sapiens  ).

The pastel colours are wonderfull, as has been said, i also like the dof so as the flowers on the left are nice and sharp too. Well done for getting this shot, mantids like this stump me, they have such long arms and legs it is really difficult to get a body shot where there is any room for detail left as they end up small but fill the whole frame, so it is nice to see a shot where those problems dont cause trouble and such a nice compostition too.

I bet he just wasn`t hungry...bees would be no problem for a mantis. I agree with the colors Sue. the Blush on the mantis goes very well with the flowers.
