The Scarlet Pimpernel (updated image)

Post by Bruce Williams »

note: . After recalibrating my monitor I noticed that the original image was too light, so I replaced it with a darker version (CS3 blend mode = multiply at 25%).

I was sorely tempted to play around with the title for this posting.... :D

This little red flower only fully opens in sunlight so we've not seen too much of it this summer :(

It's quite tiny - approx ¼inch (or 6.5mm) in diameter.

Nikon D80 with 105mm macro lens
hand-held, no flash
ISO 100, 1/50s at f/11

Anagallis arvensis, diameter = 0.25 inches

Hey Bruce, it looks very very nice and sharp considering handheld 1/50s. :D :smt023

Yes, a very beautiful flower and picture Bruce. Isn`t there a movie called "The Scarlet Pimpernel' ? like a cowboy movie? you should have a good fall mushroom season with all the rain

The Scarlet Pimpernel
Wasn't that "Daffy Ducks" role in the cartoon series  Quite a beautiful little flower there Bruce, lots of detail in that center portion. Can't say as I have ever seen one of these before, well in person that is. :D

Nikola - Thanks for your comment. This is such a tiny flower that I had to lay down on the ground to take the pic, so was able to brace and lock my elbows :) .

Thanks Doug - The Scarlet Pimpernel was a novel about an English aristocrat set during the French Revolution. Years ago I saw a swashbuckling film staring a young David Niven - but I've not read the book.

Thanks Ken- Hey you know I saw that Daffy Duck cartoon! Forgotten all about it till you mentioned it. Checked on Google - it was called "The Scarlet Pumpernickel" .
