I think this is a variety of the Spur-throated grasshopper known as the Migratory Grasshopper M. sanguinipes (formerly M. bilituratus)

These are some pretty neat hoppers here Sue. :D Haven't seen one in a long time. When I was a boy, I used to use them for "bluegill" bait. Worked pretty good too, I would always come home with a stringer of big fat bluegills for supper. :D

Really great capture Sue! :D :smt023
Beautiful hopper with very nice texture.
Very, very pleasant DOF and colors also.
Sue, thank you very much for care about my absence. I behave like Robinson Crusoe when I'm on vacation.
I gone one week earlier, unplanned in rush... should say I'll be absent for a while.
I'm pleased you all were missed me here. 8) (Uhh... wrong sentence construction? )

Noticing of my "a" and "the" and other grammar
errors are welcome. :D

Beautiful composition and colors. The lighting puzzles me a bit. I presume direct sunlight for most of it, but there are some reflections like on the eye, cheek, and hind leg that suggest fill light from below. Flash? Reflector? Something else?

Nikola, yep, either "we missed you", or "we were missing you". The first construction is more common. The second one indicates that we noticed several times, or over some extended period. All of those are true, in your case.

Sorry Rik. I supplemented the natural light source with fill flash.

It works well. I'm just always looking to understand how really good pictures were done --- so that I can copy shamelessly!

Thanks for the info. :D

Very beautiful Sue. All the colors match up very well with the critter
