Red Saddlebags Dragonfly...

Post by twebster »

Image
Red Saddlebags Dragonfly, Gilbert Water Ranch, Gilbert, Arizona, USA
(Canon EOS 20D, Canon EF 300mm f 4L IS lens + Canon EF 1.4x tc, ISO 400, 1/250 sec @ f 11, fully lighted by a Canon 550ex
electronic flash set to +1 f stop compensation, cropped about 85% of full frame.)

If you were to look down from above the dragonfly you would see two red shapes on the hind wings that connected would
look just the same as saddlebags put on horses, hence the name. I was very happy to find this individual down low and
resting. Normally these dragonflies constantly fly around well above head height.

Comments and critiques welcomed and encouraged. :)

A beautiful photo Tom. I always enjoy your dragonfly photos. I love the angle on this one. The background is great also.
