Jim,

Welcome aboard! First postings are always fun. :D

These are lovely images. I'm presuming that you've made them B/W for artistic purposes, or did you actually find a skin so clear that there was no color worth saving?

One minor issue --- there's a limit of 3 images per 24-hour period per forum or gallery. At the moment, your post is showing 4 images. (It would be a nice touch to edit it down to 3, but quite frankly nobody's going to get very excited about one extra image, hosted offsite, on a first posting.) I don't see any other glitches, but you might want to review the full set of posting guidelines (here) just in case.

Again, very nice images, and welcome to the forums! We hope to see a lot more great images from you. :D

Thanks rj, I was unaware about limiting of photos :o I'll make sure not to do it again.
I just thought these images looked better in B&W, kinda gives a high contrast image with black surface.

Yep, they look great in B&W.

One thing a bit odd, though -- I tried pulling one direct into Photoshop CS to confirm that it really was B&W, and Photoshop complained that
The embedded ICC profile cannot be used because the ICC profile is invalid. Ignoring the profile.
The images display OK in Internet Explorer and FireFox, and in IrfanView and Photoshop (after ignoring the profile). But Photoshop's diagnostic might mean that something strange could happen with other browsers or image viewers.

It's a diagnostic that I've not seen before. Any idea what in your workflow might cause it?

that is very unusual, I used Photoshop Elements 5.0 and simply went to full edit, enhance, convert to B&W then adjusted contrast,, pretty simple way of converting :?:

Yes, very puzzling. You would think that Adobe's various softwares would know how to talk to each other.

Sounds like time to just make a note for possible future reference, and not worry about the observation unless something else weird pops up. :smt102 Happens all the time. :?

Hi Ya Jim :D Great first shots on the forums! :D I should have mentioned to you the posting limits in each of the forums though but I see Rik has brought that to your attention. Sorry. You have an edit button off to the right where you can click on and remove any image that you like though. I am assuming you used the extention tube on these? They do look much better in B&W since cicada carapaces do not have much color and mostly covered in mud and dirt from having been in the ground so long. Sometimes I will gently wash them in a small stream of tap water and use a small soft cosmetics or stencile brush to remove dirt and such and then let them dry. :D

Thanks Ken,
I removed 1 image,, thanks,,
yes,, the carcas is sorta bland tan, not much detail, so I thought it looked better in B&W.
Like I said,, there is some amazing stuff on this forum,, just looking for constructive criticisms. :)
Gotta keep shooting,, you guys give me inspiration :D
and your right,, extention tubes stacked on the Sigma with a tripod.

Hey thanks for the editing of your post Jim, greatly appreciated  Don't be a stranger now, post away. Constructive criticism is what it's all about. You can't get better by not trying and posting. :D
