Butterfly

Post by salden »

Image

This image did not come out as expected. It was backlit with the sun, but the flower branch was in deep shade (hence, underexposed). I used my flash unit (Canon 550ex set at -2) and had the lens (28-135mm) set to macro.

Shutter speed @1/125
ISO 100
Aperture @ f9

This is a major crop as well (approximately 50% of full frame). I cloned out two very black areas (from branches) to the right side of the frame.

It just seem to come out strange to me, kind of funky looking.

Funky for sure Sue......but very cool looking  looks like you really confused the camera with the different lighting :D

Wow! It's like it's been posterized -- all the colors have been driven into saturation, except the light yellow of the butterfly. :!: Some effect of pulling the branch up out of the shadows, I suppose. :?

The butterfly is a bit unusual, too. It's a male (the valvae are clearly visible), but the abdomen seems unusually thick for a male swallowtail.

I'm pretty sure this is a once-in-a-lifetime shot, Sue. :D

That is a wild shot Sue, sort of abstract I think but what do I know, huh? :D
