Terrapin or "Tarpun"

Post by Ken Ramos »

Most of us ol' boys down here never paid much attention in english class and I am no exception. My mind was always on that cute little number that sit next to me in class. I suppose you wonder what that has to do with Terrapin and Tarpun. Well down here most of us call it a "Tarpun." Easier to say, off the cuff, and everyone knows what you are talking about.

Yeah, I know. There is a distracting stem of grass on the right side of the image. If I had picked this thing up to move it, then I would have had only a closed door to take a photo of. I also think that these and turtles were what gave someone the idea to come up with road hogging RV's. :?

Nice terrapin (tarpun, whatever  )!

It took me 3 views to realize that you were talking about the tan grass on the right side.

Somehow I first noticed the green grass in the center, and got stuck on that. (Aside from the turtle, of course.)

Ah, viewers, you just never know what they're gonna see!

Same here on the grass. I did not see the tan grass until Rik said something  A cute little fella for sure. I am wondering if that is an eastern box turtle. I have not seen one in the natural setting since my teen years. They are on the endangered species list through out most of their range I believe (loss of habitat, road kills...the usual stuff :( )
