A White faced Dragonfly

Post by beetleman »

I am not sure if that is the name (will look around for ID) but that is the color of his face. This fella landed on the deck and I was able to get level with him and get one shot off before he flew away.

Nice head-on shot. Your ID may be right, but all Lecorrhinia species are white faced, so it may be another one. The Leucorrhinia name comes from greek where "leukos" means white and "rhinios" means nosy (rhis = nose).

Thanks Erland, I edited my post a little to back up on the family tree a notch on the ID. All I remember about the specimen is he did not have any specific coloring (just a dull dark color) as far as I could see except the nice clean white face. Thank you very much for the meaning of the name also...I love science :smt023 :D
