A Mixed Trio of Single Photos

Post by beetleman »

Just some single photos of a mixed bag of different insects. The bumble bee is unusual because of the orange color. I remember seeing another specimen years ago and reading something about them being a rare find. Also, this one was dead when I found him in a screened-in porch, so it is a staged photo. The hopper in the third picture I call my "Gumby Hopper". If you are Familiar with the Gumby & Pokey cartoons (actually claymation) of long ago, you will know what I mean. It just looks so blocky and 2 dimensional. Found a link for the Bumble bee, Bombus melanopygus, but the info I am finding lists this one as having a northwest range. http://bugguide.net/node/view/111812

Nice captures Doug. :D
Speaking about orange, is that an orange mite on the hopper?
The meaning of beauty is in sharing with others.

P.S.
Noticing of my "a" and "the" and other grammar
errors are welcome. :D

Thanks Nikola....I took a closer look at the spot and I cannot tell you what it is but it didn`t look like a mite (sort of looked like lint)

That is a very interesting fly Doug. I have never seen anything like it. Same with the grasshopper.

You know I really like that bee and that has to be the greenist grasshopper I have seen in a while. :D
