Red Eft Newt

Post by beetleman »

The Red Eft Is a terrestrial, intermediate stage between the larval stage and the adult aquatic stage of the Red Spotted Newt. The adults lay the eggs in the water, the larvae transform to the terrestrial Red Eft and they transform into the aquatic adults. The second picture (not very good) is a Red Lined Salamander. It is amazing how fast these things can crawl through the grass.

Interesting critters, Doug. Completely unlike anything that I've ever seen in the wild. Are these at your new jobsite?

Most unusual subjects Doug. How do you find these things?

These are animals I miss living in Arizona. We have a few tiger salamanders but they are not native. Thanks for posting these, Doug. :)

The place I am working now is heavily wooded with some open pasture and I am seeing a lot more creatures that I do not see normally in the small city i I live in. These are fairly common creatures here in NH and I was cleaning up some construction debris and they were under some wood on the ground. I always have my camera on hand while I am working just for these "photo ops"
