How big? Where did you find it? Do you plan to keep it around and see what comes out?

Hey there Rik -
It is about 1 inch, I found it on top of the sand, and I did keep it. However, it is so light that it feels empty as if whatever was inside may be gone. :(

On top of the sand and very light -- yep, bad signs! :(

The word "sand" and something about the appearance reminded me of Hemileuca -- the Buck and Sheep moths. The adults are pretty spectacular. Size doesn't rule these out. But I don't have any actual pupae to compare against, and doing anything by memory is a fool's errand!

Excellent photo Craig. You captured the right side of the pupa, very nice and sharp with great DOF and the sand is very beautiful :wink:
