Red-Sided Garter Snake

Post by crotermund »

I was driving down the road while out on an insect shoot and I noticed this snake thinking about crossing the road. He had just crossed over the line of the shoulder. Anyway, I pulled over, grabbed my camera, and lie down on my stomach in the road to get a profile shot. Thankfully, the cars that passed by me were paying attention although I am sure it looked like a pretty strange scene. He was about 3 feet long. :)

This is really clean there Craig. Nice colors, depth of field, and quite sharp, the background really compliments the color of the snake. You did good IMO :D

Excellent photo Craig. What a beautiful looking snake. I hope you got him going in the right direction after the shot. very nice angle and I agree on the background, very clean and it does not look like a road.

Good job! I don't photograph wild snakes very much--I never seem to see them when I am looking for them, or at least would welcome seeing them! You took good advantage of a "target of opportunity" here.
