I was driving down the road while out on an insect shoot and I noticed this snake thinking about crossing the road. He had just crossed over the line of the shoulder. Anyway, I pulled over, grabbed my camera, and lie down on my stomach in the road to get a profile shot. Thankfully, the cars that passed by me were paying attention although I am sure it looked like a pretty strange scene. He was about 3 feet long.
This is really clean there Craig. Nice colors, depth of field, and quite sharp, the background really compliments the color of the snake. You did good IMO
Excellent photo Craig. What a beautiful looking snake. I hope you got him going in the right direction after the shot. very nice angle and I agree on the background, very clean and it does not look like a road.

Good job! I don't photograph wild snakes very much--I never seem to see them when I am looking for them, or at least would welcome seeing them! You took good advantage of a "target of opportunity" here.
