Amazon - Strange & Unknown Thing / Assassin Bug

Post by crotermund »

I wish I could have gotten a better shot of this strange thing, but he didn't stick around. Notice the translucent shelf around most of the body. Any ideas as to what he might be?

I believe this is an assassin bug and the remains of a moulting? :-k

Craig, I think you´re right about your second picture. :smt045
The first one shows a cockroach (Insecta: Blattodea=Blattoptera). ...La cocaracha! La cocaracha! Nananananananana... :smt020 :D

Cheers,
Betty

I agree the first is a roach nymph. Neat assassin bug.

Thanks a lot for the id's Betty & Gordon. Ken, roaches aren't one of my favorites either. I don't think you have to worry about finding this one in the basement, though.

I doubt seriously than anyone here is familar with JEST (Jungle Enviromental Survival Training), though I might be mistaken and there are a few. However during the training, a very large insect, much like a roach but actually and aquatic beetle was on the menu for a single evening. Thank goodness the training was only two weeks of sleeping and surviving (eating) off of what ever you can scavage in the jungle. :smt087 By the way, you would be surprised at what you would eat if there were nothing else to eat...and don't say you wouldn't!

Excellent pair of photos Craig. The roach is incredible. I did not think roach until Betty said it and then you can start to see it with some of its` features. The molted skin in the second pic is a special find that you do not see too often.
