Post by gslaten »

The cactus in Tucson are coming into bloom in a hurry. This is a common prickly pear.

A very beautiful Picture and flower. The things under the flowers, are they the fruit? I love prickly pear fruits

Thanks Doug,

No, they are unopened flowers. The fruit will set a bit later. We have literally hundreds of prickly pear plants, so we always have plenty of fruit. We had a lot of rain during the late summer and fall, so we will have a bumper crop this year. My wife and granddaughters usually pick a bunch and make jelly. Delicious.

Here is a close crop of the flower. I really like the texture of the petals.

Very nice flower and color contrast. :D
Surprisingly decent appearing for ISO 1600!
