About damselfly,DOF,ocelli, eye details and few other things

Post by MacroLuv »

A few more pics of damselfly (Order: Odonata - Suborder: Zygoptera). :D
On #1 you can see a "fingerprint" of DOF in form of the sharp "ring" on tiny dry twig. Ocelli (three in nuber) are also nicely visible. Are those some kind of sharp tooth in its mouth?
Actually, the DOF has less in depth than sharp portion on tiny dry twig in lenght. You need to get an angle of it in the count. :-k
#2 - shows the whole insect.
#3 - more details of the eye are visible. :D

Hello Nikola, I particularly like picture #2. The background & focus are really nice and I love the deep blue appearance of his eyes. :)

I like the second photo also. A full body shot and your eyes are drawn to the blue eyes. The eye detail in the third picture is very sharp. #1 & 3 would be a lot better with more DOF

Well, in a poorly disguised attempt to ingratiate myself (and maybe earn a more sympathetic critique of my own work at some future date ) - I like all three pics for different reasons :) :

Pic1 is interesting from a technical point of view as it nicely illustrated the sharply delineated DOF at f/2.8 and it's also quite a good head shot too, showing the three ocelli rather well.

Pic2 is an appealing shot for the reasons already mentioned.

Pic3 is my favourite as it's "different" from the usual damselfly study, focusing on the beautifully coloured eye of this species and also showing some interesting detail on the legs (joint on foreleg and bristles on middle leg).

That is one nice damselfly. I like all three photos, but wuold like slightly more DOF in the close up shots, like f/6.4 or so.
