Unusual Background...

Post by Ken Ramos »

Some people may see the Virgin Mary, seems as though she has been spotted more times than Elvis here of late, in anything from stained glass windows to cuts out of a tree and though I by no means, mean any disrespect, it just happened to cross my mind as this background image appeared to me just out of the blue in this photo or maby out of the green. Tis only a long legged insect starring intently at the apparition and if one looks quite closely at the green background, they should note two dark spots that look somewhat like eye sockets. Moving down from them, what appears to be the faint resemblance of a nose, maybe a blush on the left cheek and then the mouth with a quite promanant chin below. Above the eyes one might also see part of a hat, maybe "Freddy Kruggers" and to the left of the mouth and chin, the collar of a jacket. Creepy huh...

I see the face, but it just looks like a face to me, not like "Our Lady". Of course, if this was a ladybird beetle, it would HAVE to be her! :-)

Many scientists think that part of the brain is hardwired to recognize faces, certainly we are pretty good at it.

Arguably, since we are primed one way or another to look for and recognize faces, that might lead us to pull a face out of anything that looks vaguely face-like.

I did a bit of googling to respond here, and found at least one article that challenges the hardwire theory:

And this one that indirectly suggests that maybe part of the brain is primed (through design or practice) to recognize visual patterns, and perhaps we just use it for faces because they are one of the most important patterns for most of us.

Interesting photo. Maybe we ought to have a "weird things found in bokeh" week!

Interesting links Mike. Maybe we are more prone to recognize faces and maybe certain other things as well. Thanks Mike. :D

maybe he is the "green man" the mystical man of the forests and woods...I think Bruce discussed this in one of his post. I am expecting a long tongue to shoot out and attack the insect. Very nice shot Ken...execpt for that distracting background.
