That is a very unusual pose-picture for a cranefly Ken. Usually the pictures are from the top or the side. I think that is why this guy looks so strange looking IMO. A nice and different picture Ken.

Yeah it is a bit unsual for a Cranefly. This one was perched in the honeysuckle at the edge of the yard, so it made it easy to get an underneath shot. Thanks Doug :D

Hhmm, let's see -- legs going one way, head cocked the other, both antennae slewed off to one side and stuck under one leg?!

Somehow I don't think it's just viewing from underneath that makes this critter look like he's been dipping into the overripe fruit & magic mushroom cocktail.

Nicely shot, Ken!

Not really sure as to what this insect had on or in its mind Rik but it really looked strange when I came across it. At first I thought it was trapped in a spiders web and that the spider had gotten to it and had given it a good bite  but closer examination concluded that there was no evidence of a spider having been the reason for the odd appearance of this Cranefly. It appeared also to be still alive but very disoriented, maybe a spider had gotten to it, who knows. I have seen a few of the crawlers about here of late, though they were rather small ones. :-k Thanks Rik. :D

This is a fun pic, Ken. It does have a kind of psychedelic vibe to it. The blurred out green honeysuckle leaves make it work well. I like the curvature of the antennae almost as if he might be perched in the wind. It also looks like his front right leg is broken. 8)

You know Craig, from the awkwards appearance of this thing, I was thinking also that it may have suffered a bird strike. A near miss so to speak and now crippled up, is resting in the honeysuckle. :-k Thanks Craig :D
