Hi y'all,
It's that time of the year and the cactus flowers are back in bloom I'm not really a devoted flower photographer but I do love the cactus flowers so prominant in the southwest US. Here's a few I managed to photograph, today, while I was scouting hummingbirds at the local botanical garden...
All of these images were made with my Canon 1D MkII and 70-200mm f 4L lens + 1.4x II teleconverter. A couple of images I had to add a 12mm extension tube to focus closer. All are cropped about 85% or thereabouts. Even though I have dedicated macro lenses I have come to use the 70-200 zoom more and more for medium to large flowers. The image quality is excellent and makes for a lightweight lens I can hang off my belt in a lens pouch.
Enjoy, my friends
It's that time of year...Oh Boy!!!

I will never get tired of seeing cactus flowers. Very sharp and vibrant colors in your photos Tom. I like the first one with the flower in the upper half and the spikey buds in the lower half with the blurry background in the middle.
