Do you think we need to get out more?

Most certainly! :D If one has no health issues, a good 5 mi. hike over rough terrain with a 45lb. pack full of camera gear would be good for you. Not to mention the extras like, at least a bottle of water and plenty of healthy snacks to munch on while you are looking for suitable subjects for photographing. However, I am no physician so don't take my advice seriously (disclaimer in the event you go flat of your back on the trail)

Yes it might as a matter of fact. :-k Not as young as I used to be but still from time to time, I venture into these mountains here in North Carolina for a day long hike and I do go very well prepared most of the time, expecting to spend a day or two in the event something unfortunate happens. So besides my cameras, I do carry a modest amount of gear. A ranger once told me, "if you venture far into these mountains...go expecting to spend the night." Good advice I thought, a lot of people get lost or hurt in these mountains every year, some by their own foolishness and others just by unfortunate circumstances. :D
