Found a way to get macros with new cam!

I found a +4 dioptre close up lens that i used to use on my Canon, and tho the pics arent great theyre certainly a lot closer than the camear can go unaided!

The bottom one seems to have areoles and spines and what looks like a rudimentary leaf, is it a slice of an Opuntia?

Its a Christmas Cactus(Schlumbergera), it flowered its head off on the hall windowsill.

Yea its one that turned up in my palm pot in the kitchen,not sure if its an indoor type or an outdoor!

With the light shining through it it looked as if it had been sliced through an Opuntia pad!

Schlumbergera would explain what looks like an awl shaped rudimentary leaf. The parts people call leaves are in fact two ribbed flattened stem segments. Though in the case of another cactus the name Epiphyllum means "on a leaf" a reference to the flowers coming from leaf shaped stems, there are no plants I know that flowers from leaves, only modified leaf like stems.

I think Butcher's Broom comes close,or it looks like it does.(Ruscus aculeatus)
