Moodily atmospheric.
IMO nine out of ten times this sort of pic just doesn't work - this one does! I think maybe in part because it's a good composition and the background is well ....just perfect!
....also that hint of detail in the antennae sort of "pulls" you into the picture.
well done Ken!

I took several shots of this thing, this seemed to be the best of the bunch. I really liked the way the antennae stood out and the curvature of the insects body. I would have liked to have had more detail in those antennae though but this thing was in an awkward spot and seeing as how I have a @#!@# cold, I did not feel like fooling with it much as it was. When I am ill, I have very little patience but I think most of us are like that. Another thing I liked as you have pointed out is the background, dark and forebodding, kind of like shooting Draculas Castle against a stark Romanian sky. I like "moody" images, I guess its my darkside.
Thanks Bruce

I really like this shot, Ken. The sky is perfect for the mood it creates. Like Bruce, I find that this silhouette type of shot usually doesn't work for me. It's like the scout midge of doom surveying the scene before the armies arrive. Ok, that might be a bit extreme, but the sinister vibe in the picture works well.
