A weevil found in the jungle:

Just a little inchworm:

A very small nest of star wasps. This is the id provided by our guide so I am not certain if it is exact or not. Ken & I encountered a much bigger nest of these things also. Their nests were really cool. 8)

I love all three pictures Craig but the inchworm, for some reason, strikes me as very cool....must be the banded colors. Did the wasps threaten you at all????? I would not want to try and get a shot like this of a local yellowjacket nest

Thanks, Doug. No, the wasps weren't threatening, but to be honest I don't really think about it anymore. I stick my lens / face a lot closer than I should to this kind of stuff  and do my worrying if the nest all of a sudden appears empty and I feel buzzing around my head. :)

Three more super pics Craig. Love the snout and bent antennae on the weevil - in fact he's altogether an interesting character. The inchworm is classic :D. The light areas of the body seem almost translucent - is that internal structures we can see or just lighter surface markings?

You know I really don't know how I would like having my antenna at the end of my nose but the weevil seems not to mind, like it has a choice  A very good and detailed shot though :D That inch worm brings about the same questions as what Bruce asked, looks as though I can see a gut and a few viens of some sort in there :-k As for those wasps, they are pretty cool 8) , I have never seen a nest like that before. Wonder why they call them "star" wasps :?: Maybe one has to get a little closer to find out. I know if a hornet pops you one, you will see stars...and planets, and galaxies, black holes...maybe even deep space.

Hmmm, Bruce & Ken, you do have my curiousity on the inchworm. It does have a translucent quality on the lighter areas. I looked at the original and I'm not certain, but those lighter markings do look like they could be something inside. :-k Good eyes, guys. Cool. 8)
