These large dragons were spotted near a lake that had just been drained for maintenance.

Wonderful photos Craig...the one in flight is awesome. You usually cannot get close to these insects :shock:

Great photos of Anax junius laying eggs in tandem. One species I've not managed to photograph yet :D

Thanks Doug & Erland. It definitely seems that this particular dragonfly (Anax junius) is difficult to get close to. It seems like they are normally either flying very high overhead or quick to fly away if you ever encounter them on the ground.
