Amazon - Bumblebees Touched By Midas?

Post by crotermund »

I'm not sure if the pictures convey it or not, but these large bumblebees (possibly?) had bodies of gold unlike any insects I have ever seen. There were tons of them and I was a little leery about getting my face down in there for a closer shot.

You've captured their unusual gold colouring extremely well (looks good on my monitor).

There seem to be a few different species (and sizes of gold bee) dotted around your photo, including one with that odd "tail-in-the-air posture that we saw in Ken's Amazon Pics part 54.

Took guts shooting this one Craig =D>

Some striking colors on those gals Craig. They are very beautiful. Whenever I view your pictures or Kens`, I imagine myself down there and all I can see is myself yelling and screaming like a little kid "Man look at this..look at that..OMG" Just being very excited. Was that the way it was???? If you go down again, I think we could get a group of 15 from the forums to "FISH" with you \:D/

Doug,

That's exactly the way it was. I imagine at times you people are saying, "that's the best pose/composition you got?", but you have to realize that it is like being a kid in a candystore...you have so much to see and taste that it is hard to concentrate on one thing.

If only we were down there an extra week....

I tell you what, Doug, if you will pay my way, I will even carry your extra batteries and flash cards as I "guide" you.

Ken is right, Doug. It is constant excitement down there as you have no idea what you might see as you walk to the next plant, tree, beach, etc. Each location was full of it's own surprises. BTW - I would be happy to offer my guide services for 20% off what Ken is charging and will even help get you "hooked up" with a giant Peacock Bass. :P

Great shot. Interestingly enough you have at least three different species of bee in that picture.
