I found theese little critters on the top of a lake. I like springtails they are a kind of cute. I like this picture because you can see many kind here in many position.

They live on the surface of the water. This lot was in a little whirlpool, they floated close by. Some of them are dead (tail extended) I think. Maybe going throught the surface tension is lethal to them.

Really interesting gathering of different springtails acerola. You did a fine job on the picture. :wink: The black background works very well IMO.

The big ones are family Isotomidae and look like Isotomurus palustris, found on fresh water and on the surface of soil in many locations. The smaller, purplish one looks like family Poduridae, Podura aquatica, found only on fresh water.

Quite a menagerie of springtails there Péter. :D Ran across something similar not to long ago during mid-winter, though I never got a good shot of them. :)
