Echinocereus sp. ...Survivor of long term neglect (1978 pic)

Post by Bruce Williams »

Hi folks,

As mentioned in my last posting Echinocereus sp. - A survivor of long term neglect, I found an old Agfacolor transparency of this same Echinocereus plant as it was in its youth in the summer of '78.

The photo's of no technical merit (although I'm sure that I was pleased with it at the time :D ), but I thought it might be interesting to put it up for comparison and as a token of repect to a true "survivor".

Camera was a Chinon CX manual SLR with f1.7, 55mm lens plus extension rings.

Yes Bruce I think it is Echinocereus stoloniferous in one of its forms.

Thanks for the ID Dave - and E. stoloniferous is a real possibility as I certainly had a plant of that species in my collection (I bought every Echinocereus I could get my hands on). I've had a close look at the plant today but its not possible to tell if any of the heads are offset from stolons - well without removing it from the pot anyway.
