Danny - Thanks for your very encouraging comments.

Mike and Dave - Thanks for your comments - clearly there is a problem with pic3 that is giving the impression of oversharpening :-k However, in-camera sharpening = normal and Photoshop sharpening was absolutely minimal (USM= 45, 0.6, 0). You know, I wonder if the effect may have been created by the fact that the flower was mostly back-lit? The photo was taken looking towards the glass in a lean-to greenhouse.
