Wave of a crest - Variagated Euphorbia lactea crest.

Post by cactuspic »

I find crests are fascinating to look at, but their growth form is so chaotic and lacking in a central focus, that it is difficult to compose a coherent picture.

After years of semi-stasis, last summer this plant decided to have a breakout year and put out a bunch of new growth. It grows on its own roots and is one of my favorites.

I hope you enjoy.

Best photo I have ever seen of an "Other Succulent" Irwin - completely invisible, and I dislike crests and monstrose plants even more!

Very clever title Irwin :D

It's an interesting photo - would like to see one in leaf and in flower if the opportunity arises.

I'm sure that even Dave must have cast an admiring eye over one or two of the more cactus-like Euphorbias. IMO E. obesa is a cracker and when young can look very much like Astrophytum asterias. I also like E. horrida and my absolute favourite is E. bupleurifolia (ok Dave this one's maybe a bit of a TCP).

Muse: First time I've thought about it in 20 years, but I was really proud of my E. bupleurifolia ....hmmmm might even consider buying another O:)

Bruce, that is as much leaf as you will see. At the center of the crest, you will see the new growth with its rudimentary leaves. These leave die as the plant grows, as it does with the norrmal growth form

I don't know if this crest flowers,. It has not as yet, but my fingers are crossed.

Bruce, thank you for your consistent encouragement. If you don't mind, I'll return the favor and encourage you growing at least somethng succulent again.

Have a good weekend.

Great shot Irwin. My wife just bought me something like this, will have to take a picture of it later.
