Amazon Pics Part 40

Post by Moebius »

A few from my walk down to the poison dart frog area described in the last post. Was a very dimly lit area.

I guess you just cant have any bug-like phobias when going into the amazon to take pics can you. Some of these creatures you've shared with us look pretty scary (that first one in this shot looks intimidating for a person like me who's afraid of wasps and such).

By the same token, that first shot is my favorite of these three for the wonderful color.

BTW: I read up a bit on your poison dart frog. The poison these guys emit can kill 1000 people (that's just 1 frog btw). I wonder if this is where the fear of touching frogs/toads came from?

Not in this particular habitat. This area was definitely the darkest and eeriest I have been to. Too worried about poisonous snakes (valid warning in this particular area) and spiders as big as your hand (not really too much of a threat unless you handle/step on barefoot) then worrying about little insects.

Later I will show some pics I took on a sandy shore of butterflies and bees. There we had different types of bees swarmed around us while taking pics. Didn't bother them, they didn't bother us. Wasn't going to let them distract me from the task at hand.

I will have some pics of the poison dart frogs and a boa constrictor up this week.

Three more interesting photos Ken. I particularly like the long legged fly. It's a very nicely marked species and IMO levels, colour balance and sharpness are excellent.

Thanks, Bruce. I have been working on these things. I tried everything I could think of for pic #2, but for some reason a dark bug on a black background doesn't show up well.

I suppose I could spend much time on it and mask out the background or some such thing, but didn't think the pic was good enough for that kind of time investiture.

More wonderful photos Ken. Beautiful red on that first creature. I have seen the fly in #3 here in New Hampshire (not as striking as your fellow), It was flickering his front legs (the white parts) very fast in front of him and it make me think it was some kind wasp....did you see this one doing that?

Doug,

To be honest, no. I took several thousand photos and I don't remember all that I took. I have seen other long legged flies exhibit the behavior mentioned, but don't recall what this particular subject was doing.

Thanks for the comments

All the best. :D

Danny.
Worry about the image that comes out of the box, rather than the box itself.
