Trio of Sundew Plant Pictures

Post by beetleman »

Here again we have Drosera falconeri. it is such a beautiful plant. The leaf pads are around .750" (20mm) in diameter, lots of dew and a beautiful red color. I found a rather large ant in my plants so I decided to do a little hand feeding. This sundew does not move much and is more likely to catch small nats and flies. larger insects would probably be able to dislodge themselves. You can see that the leaf edge did move somewhat but not like some of the other sundew pictures I have posted. The third picture was taken with the camera in 20X zoom which is into the digital end so it is a bit noisy.

Nice looking lady, Doug. :D
She got some prepared foodstuff instead of water, minerals and light.
Moss looks fresh and healthy too.

Stunning plant Doug - amazingly vibrant colour. Whats that dried up thingy on the center of the plant in first pic (at about 10 o'clock)?

Thanks for the comments fellas. Bruce, that is a new leaf, They are folded like a pocket knife and As they grow, the pad folds out and than opens up. The bottom of the leaf is very hairy. See the older leaf and 3 o`clock, it has folded out and is opening up.

Wonderful plant captured well. Love the color and the droplets. Are sundew plants native to North Carolina?

Beautiful shots, as I've said before this is certainly my all time favorites Drosera. Cactuspic this particular species is native to very restricted locations in Australia, in fact a couple of the only known sites for this species are now parking lots or some such nonsense.
