A yellow green fly...

Post by crocoite »

Most of these type of flies have been green iridescence. This one is yellow with green eyes. It seemed to be interacting with the green ones. Maybe is a male/female thing, or perhaps closely related species, or even a freak of nature.

By the way, today I managed to get a (used) copy of "Insects of Australia" - over 1,000 page textbook (latest edition if you can get it runs to $330!), so I might have a bit more opportunity to identify...

Great photo Steve, lots of interesting textures in the background but not distracting at all. I love those flies...we have a lot of them around here in the summer also.

Thanks Doug. I've been trying to locate a name for them but so far without success.
