Tillandsia - Identification Help Requested

Post by cactuspic »

One of my small tillandsias recently flowered. Can anyone identify this little beauty? It is a focus stacked image taken at close to 1:1 magnification with my Canon 20d and my Sigma 180mm macro @f8. Please feel free to critique and comment.

Tillandsia, no doubt. Very nice photo and beautiful flower. :D
Sorry can not help with ID. Besides I would like to see an expert who will identify it solely by flower pic. :-k
The meaning of beauty is in sharing with others.

P.S.
Noticing of my "a" and "the" and other grammar
errors are welcome. :D

I always like to see the whole plant also, but a lot of times with tillandsia, the flower is what makes the ID. Same with orchids..I like to see the whole plant. This site is great...lots of pictures.

Thanks Doug for your kind words and the site referal. :D

I have tentatively identified it as a Tillandsia aeranthos, which has a rather unique bract and flower combination. Unfortunately, I only made it through the "c's" in the tillandsia listing, so far. I never knew there were so many different species. :o Once you have a name, however, it is amzing what you can find on google with a search.

This was a situation where the shot did not phrase well with the foliage. In the future, I will follow-up the closeup with a documentary shot for ID purposes. As a plant grower, I know its hard to have too much information to aid identification.

Best regards,

Irwin
