Though our weather still isn't the greatest at present, I did venture out at lunch, in the heat, to the field behind the plant, and capture these butterflies.
For some odd reason, I seem to find more subjects at work than at home or elsewhere.
The first two are of the same Skipper. I really like these little butterflies and there were a couple of others with different markings. The larger one is something else. I used to know the name of it but right off hand it escapes me. Thanks Mike!
#3 looks like an ordinary Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Pterourus glaucus (=Papilio glaucus), just seen from an unusual angle. It's a gravid female -- lots of eggs left in that one!
I am not seeing many around here but there are a few scattered here and there. Before I got these cameras, I used to see neat stuff, including butterflies, everywhere. Now all I see are Japanese Beetles for the most part. Thanks Sue.
The skippers seem to like the purple and white clover very much. Were you lying down on the ground when you took these shots? One time the workers in the cemetery where I shoot sometimes, thought I was dead before they saw the camera in my hand because I was on the ground trying to get that perfict shot. Great shots Ken
