Fooling Around

Post by Ken Ramos »

Not having much on my mind today or any other time for that matter  I took my little Sony DSC-W1 point and shoot, to see just what I might be able to accomplish with it. I have done this a few times before with varying results but each time I find that the point and shoot consumer type cameras such as the Sony DSC series do have a place in macro photography, albeit a small one and Nikola has shown us that there is even a much larger space for point and shoot consumer digitals, depending on the point and shoot camera that is being used too. Anyway here are my Sony macro pics...water drops. :D

Shots taken from an old stainless steel deep sink out back of the house. Notice the green crud  . This is due to the mineral content of the water from my well, needless to say you cannot drink it or cook with it but it is good for everything else. North Carolina well water is known to be very high in mineral content, at least in my area, and this is a good example of it. I think this green may be due to excessive amounts of copper.

Wow Ken, they came out very nice IMO. I have never tried to take waterdrop pictures. I think the green crud (minerals) background on the second shot really gives the shot a "Not of This World" feel.

You know I have been meaning to scrape some of that stuff off of there and take a gander at it through one or both of my scopes, just to see what may or may not be crawling around on there, if any thing.

I once took a wet mount with a vast number of pond critters swimming around on it and introduced some of the well water to the slide. It killed every single thing in the wet mount! That is when I knew that this water is not a good thing to drink...of course  .

Great pics Ken. I've always wanted to try to capture an image like that, water droplets as they bounce off of a glass of water or something like that. Timing is everything in a shot like that but you nailed it quite nicely. Well done.

Ah yes, dripping water -- a great topic of conversation. If the drops are close together, the pattern is often chaotic in the formal sense. Comes from the nonlinear influence that one drop falling has on the next one getting ready to fall. Deep philosophical stuff here...honest! :?:

Great capture Ken! :smt023
Well Rik, for me it looks simple. If you want separated drops just squeeze the pipe a little bit more. That green crud has more philosophical influence on me. :?: :-k

Wow! Excellent Ken. Puts paid to the theory that droplets falling are "pear-shaped" not round!

There are times when I would have to agree Nikola. Thanks everyone for your comments. I may have to try this with my 20D on a much cleaner faucet and sink the next time around  , would make for a nicer photograph I would think, than fooling around out back in the work shed.

Very artistic! Would work well displayed at A3 (or larger), wall mounted one above the other (as posted) - maybe frameless behind glass? IMO anyway.
