Great photo! Very interesting. Perfect exposure. That was a lucky find! He is storing the leftovers in a freezer bag!

Excellent!

You can see a whole sheet of silk being produced at once, instead of the single strand that it uses to make webs. The sheet is especially obvious toward the bottom where it's coming off as a parallel band. Part of the sheet has gotten separated, probably when the spider rotated the prey, and now it's coming off as a separate band toward the top, making kind of a fan from the row of spinnerets.

The "Silk" segment of "Life in the Undergrowth" has some wonderful footage of processes like this. If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly recommend to buy or rent a copy of the DVD.

Great photo Nikola!

Not sure quite why, as like you I spend a lot of time peering into spiders webs, but I had a immediate physical reaction (skin crawl) when I first saw this particular photo/subject/composition. Well done.

I think the grasshopper jumped into spider's web because my walking frightened him. :?
