Dendrobates tinctorius

Post by gzustak »

Hello All, I have returned under a new username. You may remember me as "Lacerta". Or, maybe not. Anyway, been busy with the demands of life in general but hope to get into some macro photography. Here's a picture of a poison dart frog (Dendrobates tinctorius) shot in one of my vivariums. I used a Sony W100 (8.1mp) in macro mode, handheld. Cropped severely. Hope to have a "real" macro setup under the tree this Christmas.

Pretty good image there George, glad to see ya back :D . I had to check out the DSC W100 since I too have a couple of the Sony DSC series cameras. Looks a bit like my W5.

welcome George, I love these frogs. It is amazing how small they are. Nice Cryptanthus he is sitting on also...I have about six of those in my collection of plants

Thanks All. Bill: You are probably refering to D. auratus which is green and black. The frog used by the Cholo indians in northwest Columbia to poison their blowgun darts is Phyllobates terribilis.

This one is a juvenile. I have four in my collection that I hope to breed.

Yes Ken, The W100 is a definate improvement over what I was using. With the Steady Pix adapter it takes pretty decent pictures throw the microscope too.

Beetleman. You know your bromeliads ! It is a Cryptanthus but don't know the species. The guy I bought it from called it a "Mystic". I use many different broms in my frog tanks. Mostly epiphytes like Tillandsia, Neoregelia, etc. They do so well in terrarriums.
