I'm betting it's "just" the sun shining through the uncolored tube of the flower. I thought perhaps a bit of surgery might be needed to remove shadow-causing parts, but Google image search on morning glory finds many images with similar lighting. This picture is a gorgeous piece of work, in any case! :D

Reminds one of an "event horizon," if that is possibly how one would look, lots of light being sucked in it appears, though I have never been there or done that and don't think the chances of survival would be all that great even if one could, however I did read one time about the possiblity of an exit cone. Nice photograph and lighting. :D

They are hard to photograph because of that hotspot. Insects cannot miss the center of these flowers :wink:
