Sidewinder rattlesnake eye in High Key
The unusual eye and strange arching protective scale on this little guy are pretty distinctive. He's truly a little guy, only about two feet long. As best as I can guestimate, this is about 3x or 3.5x. I was fascinated by the fine structure in the eye, so included a small 100% crop of the edge of the pupil.
You can see the pit that gives pit vipers their name at lower left, out of focus.
Sidewinder
controlled situation
65mm bellows lens
f/11 @ 1/250th second (maybe half a millimeter of DOF!)
