Blue Damselfly mating - mid July 2005

Post by Bruce Williams »

Hi folks,

Took several of this pair (July last year) as they were being so cooperative. The male is in the blue livery on top clasping the female behind her neck. The main problem was getting an angle where the two damselflies were on more-or-less the same plane. They were settled on a reed-bed above the water about 18 inches from the bank - so there was always the risk of taking an unintentional swim in the Great Ouze (Buckinghamshire, England).

Camera was my old 3 megapixel Fuji 6900z.

Very nice capture and colors, Bruce. :D
Fuji's cameras are very good.
I did not have luck to find mating Damselflies, only Robberflies. 8)
The meaning of beauty is in sharing with others.

P.S.
Noticing of my "a" and "the" and other grammar
errors are welcome. :D

Nice image there Bruce. Both dragons and damsels are going to be few and far between, in my little section of the world until spring. :(

Thanks for your comments guys. Damselflies are one of my favourite subjects - much easier than most UK dragonfliy species because they seem to spend less time patrolling. I have a series (temporarily misplaced) on damselflies feeding - will post an example when/if I find the folder. Now I put it somewhere safe....
