Fresh Snail babies

Post by beetleman »

I found these Baby snails stuck on the glass of my aquatic section in my terrarium. The first one is with no flash and the second one I used the flash. The whole mass is 3/8"

cool, I've never seen baby snails before. That's pretty interesting.

trying to think which shot I like better. The flash on the second shot seems to "cut out" a lot of the particulate on the side of the glass so it's a cleaner shot in that regard. However, the reflection from the glass around the snails produces a bit of "noise" for lack of a better term.

I'll go with the first image, easy choice, 'cuz I can see more detail in the baby snails.

Any chance of getting an even closer view of the wee ones?

Thanks for the comments fellas. I included the flash shot because I thought the light refractions were cool. Rik, I will try and get closer but I am at the 10x optical limit on my camera

Do you happen to have a pocket loupe handy, or a hand-held magnifying glass? Sometimes the little point-and-shoots at maximum telephoto will give surprisingly good results through those. Use 'em just like you should by eye -- stick the added lens right up against the camera, with the subject just an inch (for 10X loupe) to a few inches away.

This is as close as I can get. I tried a 15x loop I had but it would not work. This is a shot at 25x digital zoom and some sharpening in PSP. You can see the little darlings in their shell. I believe they are rams horn snails.

Some really interesting shots there Doug. I remembers see these on the sides of aquariums many years ago. :D
