Ivy Flower ( Hedera Helix )

Post by georgedingwall »

Hi all,

I noticed this morning that the Ivy on my house wall is just coming into flower.

This is a stacked image of 28 frames adjusted by 0.5 mm between shots. Each of the little florets is about 2.5 mm in diameter.

Nikon D200 with 105mm VR macro + 1.4 x teleconverter.
28 frames of 0.6 sec @ F11 iso100
Stacked in Helicon Focus
Finished in Photoshop CS2.

Bye for now.

I had a look at the Ivy on the wall before it got dark, and I found one in bloom. Looking at the way the florets are opening, I would guess that they will not all open at once, but a few at a time.

Very neat, I dont think i'v ever seen Ivy flowrs up this close! There should be a lot of nectar in there as theyre a important food source for late insects.

Thanks for the comments. I've toned down the anthers a bit. Do you think that's any better?

Bye for now.
