Re: A green lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea)

Those are lovely! If you can find it, I would also recommend the brown lacewing, as their wing veins are pretty amazing.

Re: Mouldy strawberry

Very good. Another mold is Neurospora, which has interesting spore heads. Its study has been very important in sorting out certain key paradigms in genetics. I don't know how to grow or recognize it, although it should be very common.

Re: Critter pix and cool lions

Excellent work, as usual! The fight scene is cool, and an interesting comparison of the two species. I don't think I would have seen the lion just by looking at a grasshopper, but now I can't not see it. Of course I'm going to be picking up grasshoppers and checking them for faces the next chance I...

Critter pix and cool lions

These are from late in the season, over a year ago. First up is the Large Maple Spanworm moth ( Prochoerodes lineola . If this was on dead leaves, I would have never seen it. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53259123040_0487f6b63b_b.jpg Large Maple Spanworm by Mark Sturtevant , on Flickr Next is ...

Re: 2x handheld macro upgrades for Pentax body

I looked into whether the main lens rental companies (Borrow Lenses and Lens Rentals) offered a Laowa 2x macro to rent. They don't offer those, unfortunately. When I am trying to decide on a major purchase, being able to do that is sure handy. I don't know if there are other rental companies. When ...

Re: 2x handheld macro upgrades for Pentax body

The conversation has inspired me to look again at the Laowa 2x. I really don't need it since I have a good 1x macro (which cost a lot more, btw), some Raynox diopters to add more power to it, and then the great Laowa 2.5-5x. But that 2x would live on my camera like no other!

Re: 2x handheld macro upgrades for Pentax body

Between budgeting for a lens and budgeting for a camera body, I feel that the priority money should be spent on the lenses. The Pentax K70 is a very nice camera, though. I don't know of any lens option that is as good as a real macro lens, unless you want to do fine focus stacking on a rail with mot...

Re: wide angle macro: a new 3-D printed adapter for lens combo

instead of using a CCTV lens and projecting its focal plan with a microscope lens I could use a full frame fish-eye and project its focal plan with a macro lens. What would be the difference? Smaller DOF? That was somewhat a variation tried from a previous link: https://petapixel.com/2020/01/27/bui...

Re: Mantis eye-cleaning brush

Cool stuff, Rik!! =D> The edges on the one side does give the impression of the brush hairs being like a lot of small scrapers. In the lower mag shots, pre-cleaning, I think I see that the bristles are a little bit hooked on the end too. One has to wonder about how this works on such a small scale. ...
